Social + Emotional Intelligence
What makes people successful at work and in life? Studies show Emotional Intelligence is a key factor in determining how far we go in life.
Research also indicates that 80% of success on the job and in life is a result of emotional intelligence (EQ) and 20% is a result of cognitive intelligence (IQ). Emotionally intelligent individuals have the ability to tune in to their emotions and use this information to make better decisions in life and more effectively interact with others. Social + Emotional Intelligence is comprised of 26 competencies, defined in this four quadrant model:
Self (Personal Competence) | Other (Social Competence) | |
Awareness | Self Awareness
|
Awareness of Others
|
Management | Self Management
|
Relationship Management

Can you relate to any of the following?
- Feeling high levels of emotional stress
- You avoid confrontations, even minor ones
- You have difficulty expressing your ideas or suggestions
- You don’t feel you can trust anyone
- You have little or no patience for others
Did you know that your emotions can have a major impact on the behavior of those around you?
Did you know that engaged employees are more creative and productive compared to those who are dis-engaged?
Are you aware that you can have the ability to take your vacation without feelings of worry, guilt, or obligations?
People with a high level of Social & Emotional Intelligence have a sense of self-confidence and an inner knowing that they can meet life’s challenges and live the life they choose. They are able to assert themselves and have the difficult conversations in a calm and pleasant manner while being sincere and thoughtful to others feelings.
People who can communicate effectively feel: less stress and experience less conflict; find people are drawn to them as they are good listeners and are open to and welcome others ideas and opinions, they do not diminish or make the other person wrong; they show curiosity and ask open ended questions to try to understand others points of view; they are not attached to being right!
The philosophy of Discovering You is based on enhancing your Social and Emotional Intelligence so that YOU can take back control of YOUR life again!
